A Roving…. Hooker?

So yeah… I am a roving hooker.  I know, it’s shocking.  Most people just don’t do it these days, and there’s certainly not a lot of money in it for me as of right now, but honestly I’m working on that.  I just really love to travel and I am a self-confessed crochet addict.

Wait… what did you think I was talking about?

Well, I’m glad we got that cleared up.

Five years ago, my husband and I both worked full time and then some, trying to stay on top of our bills and keep up with our house and the pool and the 4 acres and the barn and the stuff…. so. much. STUFF.  You get the picture… busy, busy, busy.  Then my husband – who had no history or family history of heart problems, suddenly and inexplicably went in to heart failure.  It was then that we had one of those moments where we both came to the realization that we wanted something different out of life.  We were officially done with the “American Dream”.  We wanted our own dream.  We wanted to travel like we used to.  We didn’t want to be tied down. We wanted freedom.

So we jumped.

Well, when I say “jumped” I really mean, more like we “rode the escalator”.  There was a LOT to do to get to the point where we could travel full time.

So, what about the crochet?

It’s amazing how much time you have to spare when you don’t have to take care of a house anymore.  My mom taught me how to do the basics of crochet when we first started downsizing into an RV.  I made her a big bedspread with the skills that she taught me.  Nothing fancy, just simple stitches, row after row.  It had its imperfections and I’m sure if I got it and looked at it now I would be able to easily point them out.  But it was a great learning piece, it will keep her warm, and it will last for a long time.

When we finally moved in to the RV I found I had even more spare time.  I started to look for simple crochet projects that I could make and that would be useful.  I don’t like to make things that people are not going to find useful.  When Coronavirus hit and schools got closed down (I’m a teacher by trade, by the way), I had EVEN MORE SPARE TIME.  It was awesome.  An introvert’s dream.  With plenty of time on my hands, yarn, hooks, and some crochet tutorials, I was in heaven.  I started making,

and making

and making.

I ended up giving everyone in my immediate family a handmade, crocheted, but most importantly: USEFUL gift for Christmas that year.  It felt so awesome! I found that I have a passion for making things: things that others will enjoy, things that will last for a long time, things that will help reduce waste, and things that may even be passed down from one generation to the next.  I mean, I still have the baby blanket that my mom crocheted for me.

So that’s me, the roving hooker.  I like to travel and I like to make things.  Now I want to show others how to make things and also sell the things I make.  Mostly so I can buy more yarn and make more things….

Look!  I have an Etsy Shop!

True 🩵Blue🩵 Goose!

I’ve had my eye on this big goose crochet pattern by Moontyasha for so long, and I finally treated myself to it! I had this really cool textured yarn that I wanted to use for it, and was afraid I wouldn’t have enough – but it turned out that one skein was enough to make not just a big goose, but also a small one!

I wanted to do something other than pink hearts because not everyone is a fan of pink, and I felt that blue was the perfect compliment to this gray colored yarn.

The use of these unique and discontinued yarns, of course, means that each of these geese – big and small – are quite unrepeatable! There will only ever be 2 big geese and 2 baby geese like these.

I want to share the True 🩵Blue🩵 Goose love! If you want one of these rare, lovely, cuddly, comfort creatures, check in my shop to see what is available!

Big Love Nessie

I’ve had my eye on this Nessie crochet pattern by Moontyasha for so long, and I finally treated myself to it! I had this really cool textured yarn that I wanted to use for it, and was afraid I wouldn’t have enough – but it turned out that I had plenty, as well as some left over to make a baby Nessie, too!

With Valentine’s right around the corner and with deep maroon yarn, I thought a heart themed Nessie would be perfect. This design made good use of the many different textures and colors of pink yarn that I had on hand.

The use of these unique and discontinued yarns, of course, means that each of these Nessies – big and small, are completely one of a kind. My next Nessie – and yes, there will be more, because they are so fun to make, will be completely different.

30+ hours of crochet, construction, and addition of details means that these are rare finds, as most fiber artists are loathe to part with their creations. I, however, want to share the love. If you want one of these lovely, cuddly, comfort creatures, check in my shop to see what is available!

Take this potion with you…

They are SO cute!

I had a request for custom potion bottle dice containers for a customer and her DnD guild, so I took up the challenge!

Fun sized and happy potion!

Each one’s colors and face were customized to match the role and personality of each guild member.

Savage Assassin!

Each one turned out just perfect with collaboration between myself and the customer.

Friendly druid, here for a good time!

They are constructed with a strong, hollow interior so they hold their shape as well as standard DnD dice!

Sneaky!

Kitty Desk Companion

So many accessories!

This little cat was a special project for my sister. I needed something to get me out of my creative slump, and she needed something for her desk at work!

Kyo, my sister’s companion.

So I set out on a journey to make a cute little effigy of her little cat that could keep her company at work. Kyo is a muted, or “pastel” tortoiseshell kitty, and I wanted to do her coloring justice.

Nailed it!

I blended light gray with a pretty beige/gold color to mimic Kyo’s coloring. And of course, added the green to her eyes.

Then it was accessory time! I bought some tiny 5mm magnets to use to help the hats stay in place. And Bobby pins to secure her wings!

I wrote these patterns down as I was making them. So after some product development and testing, I should have a digital pattern ready to sell to make this for yourself!

A Little Boost of Serotonin

Long time no see, friends. I know I’ve been off the radar for a while. I’ve just been in a bit of a Crochet slump since I have so many ready-made pieces and nowhere to store any new ones until they sell.

A little something to boost my crochet energy

I decided to make a little something for a former student who recently shared the happy news that she is expecting a baby in the fall.

What’s better and a blankie?

Making this little elephant and this snuggly tiny blanket helped me over the crochet blues. I would love to get started making more things.

Perhaps I can squeeze more makes in somewhere.

Hey, maybe you can help! Hop on over to my shop to see if there is something you’d like to purchase 🙂

Both the elephant and blanket were free patterns that I found! Click the links to make them for yourself, if you’d like!

Quails!!

These are some of my favorite little birds.

I just LOVE them. Their cute little call and the way they really do follow each other around in a line like in Bambi.

So. Adorable. These are little Gambel’s Quails, and in the summers in Idaho we get to see California Quails like the little fellow pictured below – and all their chicks!

Yes… he’s on the hood of our truck, haha!

Bunnies, bunnies, bunnies!

Hop into spring 🐰

I hope she brings joy!

Easter is on its way, and bunnies are a necessity! This little beauty was a commissioned for a little 4 year old girl who recently had a terrible accident.

Beautiful blue-eyed bunny

I hope she loves her little bunny and that it brings her comfort as her little body heals.

4 little bunnies, all in a row 💖

My hope is that these little cuddlies will be cherished by the 4 little girls they were specially made for! 💖

It’s a Horsey!

The pattern came from The Nicole Chase and it was so easy to follow.

I used the same chenille yarn that I used on the little moose snuggler I made earlier this year, so this little horse is super cuddly soft!

This was an easy pattern to follow, and I was able to complete it in about 6 hours!

Want one for yourself?

Check out my shop and have one made to order in the colors you want!

It can even be a unicorn 🦄 🙂

Ginger Kitty!!

In loving memory of Bob

My first pet ever was a red tabby cat named Bob. I got him when I was 3 years old and had him for 14 wonderful years.

As a child, I moved around a bit because my dad was in the military. I didn’t make friends easily because I’m admittedly socially awkward, though I’ve grown out of it a bit….

ANYWAY… so Bob went with us everywhere we moved and was my constant in a world full of change. He was the best cat and loved to play fetch and curl up to sleep at night by my head with his nose in my ear.

He was the inspiration for this tabby cat with the happy curved tail.

He was the best cat I ever had.

THE END
